Grace’s Beauty Shop
Panel Project at BankTennessee
After WWII, Grace Mildred Piper Jamison Duscoe opened Grace’s Beauty Shop in this building, which currently serves as the BankTennessee headquarters. Grace was born in Collierville on February 23, 1917, lived in Collierville all her life, and is buried in Collierville’s Magnolia Cemetery.
In April of 2025, Main Street Collierville commissioned Paris, Tennessee artist Dan Knowles to paint a series of three panels to recreate Grace’s Beauty Shop, to honor this building, and Collierville’s rich history.
As a visual artist, Dan is most influenced by Salvador Dali, and he studied with noted California watercolorist Daniel Peterson.
The vibrant panels, crafted with meticulous attention to detail, capture the spirit of Grace’s business, and bygone days of Collierville where neighbors met, and friendships flourished beneath the hum of hairdryers and gentle conversation. Each brushstroke by Dan preserves not only the memory of the beauty shop itself, but also the essence of the community Grace so lovingly served.
Funding for this project was made possible by Main Street Collierville’s Pennies for Preservation Fund, as well as grants from the Collierville Rotary Club and the Town of Collierville.
Although Grace passed away on March 10, 2005, the legacy of her beauty shop and over 30 years of community history, continues to endure.
